We were heading to the doctor's office to have Lucy's cast removed. It was raining. No, it was POURING! There was an accident. We were late. Mommy was annoyed/agitated/tired/cranky/etc... Finally, we get there. Mommy parks the car, takes out the keys, looks in the rear view mirror and sees this:
Oh, lipstick. Ok, no problem. Quickly wipe his face with wipies. Nope. Not coming off. "Liam, what do you have on your face? Ohhhhh, the lip STAIN Grammy threw away the other day. What? You found it in the trash? Great. Well, I hope you like the color cause you're going to be wearing it for a while*." When Lucy saw him she said - in her mommy voice - 'Oh boy Miam.'
We walk into the doctor's office, 10 minutes late (Mommy HATES being late) with one kid in a cast, and another kid with lipstick all over his face (and it looks ever worse in person). Mother of the Year.
The hardest part -- keeping a straight face because really, deep down in side, Mommy wanted to burst out laughing. It was the funniest thing Mommy had seen. Until....
The next morning when Liam decided to test out the fire extinguisher in the pantry. Mommy was making breakfast when she heard this loud hissing sound. Next thing she sees is this little boy (who she thinks is Liam) running toward her with his entire face covered in white powder. It looked like he stuck his head into the flour canister. When Lucy saw him she said - in her mommy voice - 'Oh boy Miam.' It took Mommy 5 hours to clean the kitchen and all the food in the pantry.
Mommy threw him in the shower and flushed his eyes with water for 20 minutes. He thought she was torturing him (secretly she was). Mommy's worried the Poison Control hot line is going to report her to Child Services (this is like the 4th call in a year).
Given all that, Mommy still goes back to that picture in her head when Liam is covered in white soot and laughs until she cries. For a split second she thought to get a picture for the blog but figured it more prudent to get him in the shower. Still, that would have been a great shot.
Mommy is so superstitious and thinks things happen in 3's so all day today she watched Liam like a hawk. Thankfully nothing out of the ordinary happened**.
Sometimes we just need to teach Mommy some lessons. Even though we're not babies anymore, she MUST NEVER LET HER GUARDS DOWN! She has a feeling this is how life is going to be like -- FOREVER.
*Mommy Googled and found out that baby oil removes lip stain from skin - FYI...
** Really, every day is filled with at least a dozen little fires. Never a dull moment.
